Business Investments Creating Good Jobs
Government Partnership with Ubisoft Supporting 800 New Jobs in Ontario

July 17, 2014 9:45 a.m.

Premier Kathleen Wynne and Brad Duguid, the Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, visited Ubisoft Toronto today, where Ontario's partnership with the video game developer resulted in the creation of more than 330 highly skilled jobs with hundreds more on the way. The partnership leverages a $543-million investment from Ubisoft, which will create a total of 800 jobs by 2020.

The Ontario government will build more successful partnerships through its new Jobs and Prosperity Fund. Included in the 2014 Ontario Budget, the new fund will create opportunities for workers in every region by helping businesses grow and create good jobs in Ontario.

With support from the province, Ubisoft opened a production studio and state-of-the-art performance capture facility in Toronto. Ubisoft also partnered with Sheridan College, where Screen Industries Research and Training Centre is building people's skills and supporting growth across Ontario's interactive digital media industry.

Strategically partnering with business is part of the government's comprehensive plan for a strong Ontario that builds people's talent and skills, builds a more dynamic business environment, builds new infrastructure and builds a more secure retirement for Ontarians.

" Our government is investing in smart partnerships, which will have lasting benefits for our people and our economy. By partnering with businesses like Ubisoft, we are creating the right climate to attract investment, create jobs and show the global economy what Ontario can do." - Kathleen Wynne Premier of Ontario

" The Ubisoft investment is a great example of how government and business can partner strategically to create a stronger economy. Attracting a major game developer has created an anchor investment to bolster Ontario’s interactive digital media sector, which supports about 16,000 highly skilled jobs across the province." - Brad Duguid Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure

• Strategic partnerships with businesses are a key part of the Ontario 2014 Budget, and are supported by the 10-year, $2.5 billion Jobs and Prosperity Fund.

• Since 2013, the Ontario government has strategically partnered with businesses to help create or retain about 10,000 jobs across the province.

• Digital media production contributes more than $1 billion annually to Ontario’s economy and supports about 16,000 full time employees
